UDA Attributes By-Election Wins to Public Confidence in Government Agenda

UDA SG Omar Hassan addresses the media during a press briefing at the UDA Headquarters in Nairobi on May 15, 2026.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has linked its recent by-election victories to growing public confidence in President William Ruto’s administration and the Kenya Kwanza development agenda.

Speaking during a media briefing after the latest electoral contests, UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar Hassan thanked supporters in the affected electoral areas, saying the results reflected continued trust in the ruling coalition.

“We won decisively in November across the country, again in February and now in May. UDA competes everywhere and UDA wins everywhere,” said Hassan Omar.

He noted that the victories had been achieved through coordinated efforts between UDA and its coalition partners, adding that the alliance remained united in advancing its development agenda.

“in consultation and partnership with our coalition partners, we want to dedicate this victory to that partnership because part of the victories have largely been as a consequence of the support and coordinated strategies we have had as partners,” he said.

Hassan Omar said the election outcomes demonstrated that Kenyans still had confidence in President Ruto’s leadership despite criticism from sections of the opposition and negative campaigns on social media.

“The continued vote of faith that the Kenyan people have extended to President William Ruto and his government is demonstrated by the victories we continue to record,” he stated.

The UDA Secretary General accused some opposition leaders of relying on divisive politics and ethnic mobilisation, saying Kenyans were increasingly rejecting such approaches in favour of issue-based leadership.

“I know the Kenyan people are wiser, and we are humbled by the confidence they continue to show in a broad-based government and coalition,” he added.

Hassan Omar defended the government’s social and economic programmes, saying the administration was implementing reforms aimed at improving the welfare of ordinary Kenyans through affordable housing, healthcare and economic empowerment initiatives.

“For years, some of us have believed in state intervention to ensure affordable healthcare, affordable housing and dignity for the Kenyan people,” he said.

He further praised President Ruto’s international engagements, saying Kenya had gained greater global influence through the President’s efforts to champion African-led development and economic independence.

“The President’s convening power globally and his efforts to reposition Kenya and Africa are extraordinary,” said Hassan Omar.

On regional economic development, the UDA Secretary General called for African countries to strengthen local industries, increase refining capacity and utilize African capital to finance development projects.

“Africa produces millions of barrels of crude oil daily yet still imports refined products. We must strengthen African institutions and use African capital for African development,” he noted.

Hassan Omar also addressed the issue of rising fuel prices, attributing the increases to global market disruptions and international conflicts affecting oil supply and logistics.

“There is a global crisis affecting fuel prices across the world. The cost of fuel imports has gone up because of global disruptions, but through the government-to-government arrangement our supply remains secure,” he explained.

He said the government had introduced subsidies and tax reduction measures to cushion consumers against further price increases.

The UDA Secretary General dismissed recent opinion polls suggesting declining support for the ruling coalition, insisting that the party remained firmly ahead politically.

“We focus on our work and on delivering to Kenyans. The opposition will need something miraculous to change the current political direction,” he said.

He also pointed to increased youth participation in recent elections, saying young people were becoming more actively involved in shaping the country’s political future.

Hassan Omar maintained that UDA would continue strengthening its grassroots structures and engaging citizens across the country to sustain its position as the country’s leading political party.

“We are conscious that remaining at the top requires continuous work, organisation and commitment to the people,” he said.
