Samuel Muchina Nyagah Receives UDA Ticket Ahead of Ol Kalou By-Election

UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar Hassan handing over a nomination certificate to Samuel Muchina Nyagah on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at the UDA headquarters in Nairobi following his party primary win ahead of the Ol Kalou by-election.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has officially issued a nomination certificate to Samuel Muchina Nyagah following his victory in the party primaries ahead of the upcoming Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.

The certificate issuance ceremony brought together senior UDA leaders, including Secretary General Hassan Omar Hassan and former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria, who rallied support for the party candidate while calling for peaceful campaigns.

Speaking during the event, Hassan said UDA remains committed to participating in elections across the country as a national party.

“Wherever there is an election, UDA will be there. We are a national party and we will continue standing with our candidates in every contest,” Hassan said.

He urged leaders and supporters to avoid divisive politics and uphold peace during the campaign period.

“We must conduct elections peacefully because we have a country to protect and a development agenda to implement. Every opinion deserves an equal opportunity in a democratic process without violence or intimidation,” he added.

UDA National Elections Board Chairperson Anthony Mwaura confirmed that all complaints arising from the nomination exercise had been resolved, clearing the way for the party to formally issue the nomination certificate to Muchina Nyagah.

Mwaura said the party’s internal dispute resolution mechanisms had handled the grievances conclusively, allowing the nomination process to proceed transparently.

Receiving the certificate, Muchina Nyagah thanked residents of Ol Kalou and UDA supporters for entrusting him with the party ticket.

“I want to thank the people of Ol Kalou for giving me this opportunity. I will work closely with residents to champion development and ensure students get bursaries and support that will empower their education journey,” he said.

Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria, who has declared interest in the Gatundu South parliamentary seat, described Muchina Nyagah’s nomination as a reflection of the people’s desire for leadership focused on local development and service delivery.

Kuria said the by-election campaign would focus on accountability and development, noting that UDA, as the ruling party, would be judged by its delivery on promises made to wananchi.

“We are the party in government and we must demonstrate accountability through development and fulfillment of promises made to the people,” Kuria said.

He added that the ruling party would use the by-election campaigns to strengthen grassroots mobilization ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The Ol Kalou by-election is expected to draw significant political attention as parties intensify campaigns and political realignments ahead of the next national polls.
